County Cricket round-up: Yorkshire inspired by Lehmann at large

Darren Lehmann thrashed 261 not out in his farewell match for Yorkshire in their relegation battle with Durham on the first day of their County Championship First Division game yesterday.

The Australian left-hander hit 43 fours and two sixes, facing 302 balls, at Headingley to leave Yorkshire on 473 for 3 at the close. Yorkshire's director of cricket, David Byas, said: "It must rank as one of the best innings ever played for Yorkshire."

Alastair Cook scored 132 to help keep Essex on course for promotion in their crucial Second Division match with Leicestershire at Grace Road. The 21-year-old England player made 132 sharing a stand of 155 with the wicketkeeper James Foster. Essex closed at 322 for 6.
