County round-up: Durham's treble strike but weather wins day

Durham reduced Hampshire to 77 for 3 after a rain-delayed start to their County Championship match at Chester-le-Street. Play did not start until the afternoon, and Durham captain Phil Mustard won the toss and elected to field. His seamers made the most of the conditions, cutting the visiting batsmen down to 51 for 3. Callum Thorp removed Liam Dawson and Michael Carberry in the opening overs, as Hampshire stumbled to 9 for 2.
South African batsman Neil McKenzie led Hampshire's rebuilding against the title favourites, although Jimmy Adams was bowled by Mitchell Claydon for 23. McKenzie continued to score, though, and finished the day on 46 not out.
Australia won the first one-day international against Sri Lanka in Pallekele. The touring seamers were exceptional, dismissing Sri Lanka for 191 to set up a seven-wicket win. Left-armer Mitchell Johnson was the best, recording figures of 6 for 31 from his 10 overs. Brett Lee and Doug Bollinger also took wickets as Sri Lanka failed to capitalise after winning the toss.
In response, Shane Watson started Australia's chase forcefully, scoring 69 runs from 51 balls, including six sixes and five fours. After his dismissal, a 101-run stand between Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke, both of whom scored 53, helped Australia to victory.
England T20 batsman Michael Lumb has signed a three-year deal with Nottinghamshire, following his announcement that he will leave Hampshire at the end of the season. "I've enjoyed five great seasons with Hampshire and it has been a real pleasure to have won two limited-overs trophies," he said. "However, I feel that now is the right time to make a fresh start at a new club."
