Yorkshire's first visit to Trent Bridge for a Championship match in five years always promised to be a spicy encounter and even after a start delayed until 1.55pm on the third day the cricket turned out to be worth the wait.

Australia's Darren Lehmann, who will miss nine of Yorkshire's matches because of his country's tour to Zimbabwe, must give good value when he can appear. He did that here with 62 off 76 deliveries, a knock that included a six carved over cover off Greg Smith and nine fours.

But the day largely belonged to Nottinghamshire's bowlers - Ryan Sidebottom included - who ensured that Yorkshire's hope of a clutch of batting bonus points was severely curtailed. Nottinghamshire's decision to leave out Stuart MacGill was an indication that they saw the pitch as seamer-friendly, but Yorkshire chose to bat none the less when their captain, Craig White, won the toss and included their England off-spinner, Richard Dawson.

Only Lehmann made it seem to be a particularly good decision. Two down for five inside the seventh over they advanced rapidly when Lehmann then arrived at the crease. But a partnership of 52 off 10 overs was ended when Matthew Wood fell to David Hussey's diving catch at third slip - the first of three excellent takes by the Australian - and Lehmann carved Smith to Sidebottom at third man.

Michael Lumb was well taken by Hussey at gully and Harvey, whose first three balls from Smith were dispatched effortlessly for four, became Sidebottom's maiden Nottinghamshire victim with a lazy edge to the wicketkeeper.

Neither Simon Guy nor Tim Bresnan could add anything to the total and only Dawson's careful application with the bat - he scored 74 runs - prevented a more comprehensive collapse.
