Derbyshire sign rising Aussie star
Derbyshire have signed Usman Khawaja, who made his Australia debut in the Ashes, for the forthcoming season. The 24-year-old will be available from the beginning of the campaign through to the conclusion of the Friends Provident T20 competition.
It means Khawaja is eligible for eight County Championship matches and six Clydesdale Bank 40 fixtures as well as the 16-match Friends Provident t20 campaign.
The county's head of cricket, John Morris, said: "Usman is an extremely talented batsman. Successful stints in county cricket have played an integral part in the development of many successful Australian cricketers and I'm sure Usman will benefit hugely from this experience."
Surrey, meanwhile, have signed promising young batsman Tom Maynard from Glamorgan on a three-year contract. The 21-year-old Maynard came through the ranks at Glamorgan, playing in 93 first-team games and making two centuries in one-day games.
