The England and Wales Cricket Board has written to Yorkshire seeking an explanation for the low attendance at the one-day international match with Sri Lanka at Headingley on Tuesday. Only around 9,000 spectators turned up at the 15,000-capacity venue.

Tickets sales for England's second Test with India at Trent Bridge, however, have passed the £1m barrier with more than a month to go.

Pakistan's Ehsan Mani, who will take over as president of the International Cricket Council in 12 months' time, wants the United States to take part in the 2007 World Cup in an attempt to spread cricket's appeal.
