Eoin Morgan: Ben Stokes won't be considered for T20 clash against New Zealand
Stokes has taken part in training but England aren't willing to risk the player
England captain Eoin Morgan has reiterated Ben Stokes will not be considered for Sunday’s Twenty20 against New Zealand after taking part in a light training session in Hamilton.
Stokes, who linked up with the team on Friday evening having pleaded not guilty to a charge of affray three days earlier, joined in with the eve-of-match fielding drills and later batted in the nets.
But he is still building up match fitness and will not take part in a game England must win if they are to qualify for the Trans-Tasman final.
Morgan said: “We’re not expecting Ben to play, he only got off a long flight yesterday. He’ll be taking the next couple of days really easy. There’s a big risk of injury in the next few days so he’ll be taking a light load.”
