India today solidified their lead over England in the first test, easily passing England's first innings total to reach 238 for 3 by close of play.

India's confident performance featured a maiden Test century from Deep Dasguptal, who was eventually dismissed by Craig White for exactly 100, when he was bowled off the pads.

At close of play which saw the teams playing under floodlights India had Rahul Dravid (78) and Sachin Tendulkar (31) both at the crease.

The other wicket was taken by Richard Dawson, when Anil Kumble was caught by wicketkeeper James Foster.
