Injury to keep Hoggard out of second Test
Matthew Hoggard will miss the second Test against India as he continues his rehabilitation from a back injury.
The second match, at Trent Bridge, begins on Friday and with such a swift turnaround the Yorkshire seamer does not have enough time to prove his fitness following back spasms.
Instead England have retained the same XI who contested the first Test as well as the Leicestershire paceman Stuart Broad, who was released by the coach Peter Moores last week in favour of Chris Tremlett.
"We did not consider Matthew Hoggard for this Test match on cricketing grounds," said David Graveney, England's chairman of selectors. "He is making progress in his recovery from a back injury."
