Yasir Arafat became only the third Sussex bowler to take a one-day league hat-trick as the Sharks regained top spot in the Pro40 First Division with an easy nine-wicket victory over Gloucestershire at Horsham yesterday.

The 27-year-old finished off Gloucestershire's innings in the last over when he had Steve Adshead caught at mid-wicket before yorkers accounted for Ian Saxelby and Steve Kirby.

It capped an impressive bowling performance by Sussex, who restricted the visitors to 189 on a good pitch with a fast outfield.

They then cruised to their target in 26.1 overs as Luke Wright and Ed Joyce put on 136 in 19 overs for the second wicket, with Wright contributing a blistering unbeaten 95 from 62 balls including 18 fours and a six.

Joyce hit 66 from 77 deliveries as Sussex made it three successive wins in defence of their Pro40 title.

Somerset gained their first Pro 40 victory of the season when they beat Yorkshire with 19 balls to spare at the County Ground in Taunton, James Hildreth hitting an unbeaten 62.

Jonathan Trott and Neil Carter fired Warwickshire to a crushing nine-wicket victory over an experimental Leicestershire team at Edgbaston. The home side opened their account in the Second Division with 17.2 overs to spare as the pair shared five wickets in limiting Leicestershire to 158 for 8 in their 40 overs and then opened up with a stand of 114 from only 74 balls.

Carter hit three sixes and nine fours in a whirlwind 63 from 34 balls and Trott stayed unbeaten with 73, including 12 fours, from 71 deliveries.
