A brilliant unbeaten 99 off 66 balls by Ryan ten Doeschate earned Essex a tie with Leicestershire in a NatWest Pro40 thriller at Grace Road. The Netherlands international hit 12 runs off the last three balls to see the Eagles equal Leicestershire's 255 for six for the loss of eight wickets. Both sides scored 93 runs off the final 10 overs of their innings yet Essex seemed doomed as they went into the last over still needing 16.

But after the run out of David Masters, Ten Doeschate struck Dillon du Preez for a magnificent six and followed up with another boundary and two more runs off the final delivery.

Matt Prior cracked a classy 137 off 123 balls as Sussex Sharks got their Pro40 challenge off to a winning start with a six-wicket success over Somerset Sabres. The 26-year-old opener hammered a dozen fours and three sixes to see his side home with two balls to spare after they were set a target of 243 at Arundel Castle. Former England batsman Marcus Trescothick hit 91 to be the mainstay of Somerset's 242 for seven, but Prior responded with his first one-day century of the season

Half-centuries from Paul Collingwood and Shivnarine Chanderpaul ensured Durham Dynamos got their campaign underway with a comfortable seven-wicket win over the Middlesex Crusaders at Uxbridge.

Collingwood went onto score 78 from 66 balls with three fours and six sixes, and along with Chanderpaul (58) shared an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 132.

This after they had dismissed the Crusaders for 200 thanks to Steve Harmison (four for 31) and despite Owais Shah scoring 73 from 58 balls.
