David Hemp completed his first century as Glamorgan captain to ensure his side would not finish the season bottom of the County Championship yesterday. Hemp and Dan Cherry both passed three figures to bank the five bonus points they needed to finish above Somerset in the Second Division.

At close on the third day Gloucestershire had reached 11 without loss in their second innings after the Welshmen made 597 all out, a halfway lead of 72.

Durham were still fighting to preserve their First Division status courtesy of the rain that caused play to be abandoned early in the afternoon on the third day of their last match of the season against Yorkshire.

Last season's champions, Nottinghamshire, will be relegated if the Headingley match ends in a draw.

Derbyshire's Wayne White tookfour wickets before rain ended play in the Second Division match against Surrey at Derby. Surrey are still 110 runs behind with one day left.
