Round-Up: Somerset's two-day triumph

Andrew Caddick picked up five wickets as Somerset wrapped up victory over Glamorgan at Swansea inside two days of their Second Division County Championship match yesterday. The former England bowler took 5 for 55 as the home side were bowled out for 103, leaving Somerset needing 117 to win. Although James Franklin took three wickets early on, they recovered from 22 for 4 to win.

Owais Shah passed 10,000 first-class runs for Middlesex with a classy 126 to boost his claim for a place in England's one-day squad. But his side still faced a first-innings deficit of 110 as Middlesex were bowled out for 266 in reply to Sussex's 376. The First Division leaders then moved to 102 for 1.

Northamptonshire's Lance Klusener picked up five wickets as Leicestershire slumped from 181 for 2 to 254 for 8 by the close to trail the visitors by 77 runs at Oakham School.

Scott Newman and Jon Batty's opening stand of 194 helped Surrey to a first-innings lead as they finished day two on 391 for 6 in reply to Essex's 365 all out at Whitgift School. Newman made 97 and Batty hit 87.

Fred Trueman has expressed his thanks for the public support he has received since the announcement he had been diagnosed with cancer. The former England fast bowler is undergoing treatment for small cell carcinoma, a bronchial condition. "I am deeply grateful to everyone who has sent their support during this time," said 75-year-old Trueman.
