About the Game
Each day Angus Fraser will, in The Independent, make six predictions concerning that day's play. Three of the predictions will involve names; three will involve numbers. Your challenge is to make more accurate predictions than his. Depending on how well you do, you can score runs or lose wickets. The Independent has teamed up with Sure Men to offer a range of fantastic prizes for those who do best.
Game 5: The Fifth Test (Oval, 20th - 24th August)
Each player has a total of 10 wickets to lose – after which you are “out” and can score no more runs in the match. Until then, your score accumulates from day to day, as in a real Test match. The player with the most runs at the end of the match wins a pair of tickets to the England v Australia One Day International.
The winners of all the games will not only win match tickets but will also go into a draw, together with the runner-up and third-placed player in each game, for the overall prize: a trip to South Africa for two people to watch England play in a Test match there. The overall winner will be drawn at random from this shortlist.
To enter, register to create your player identity and make your set of predictions, which must be received before play starts at 11am each day. Angus’s predictions will appear in the printed edition of The Independent daily.
At the end of each day’s play, your predictions will be scored (see scoring system below) and the players will be ranked in a league table.
The Rest of the Series
This process continues until the end of this Test match, with scores accumulating day by day – unless, of course, you find that you have lost all 10 of your wickets, in which case you will remain on the score you had when you were “all out”. Even then, however, if your score is high enough you may still be in with a chance of winning (or finishing in the first three). The number of wickets you have lost is irrelevant to your ranking, except when you are tied with one or more other players on your runs total, in which case the player who has lost fewest wickets wins.
