Sri Lanka 260-6 Kenya 88: Mubarak's onslaught hurries Sri Lanka to record score

Mahela Jayawardene's Sri Lanka side shattered the record score in Twenty20 internationals to trounce Kenya by 172 runs at the Wanderers.

Jayawardene's men amassed 260 for 6 after being asked to bat first and powered past Australia's 221 for 6 against England in Sydney earlier this year. Sanath Jayasuriya hit 88 from 44 balls, 68 of his runs coming in boundaries, and Jayawardene scored at an even quicker rate, his elegant strokes reaping 65 off 27 deliveries.

They were outdone by Jehan Mubarak, who hit five sixes and three fours to reach 46 from a dozen balls. One more boundary would have broken Mohammad Ashraful's record for the fastest half-century, but he missed the final delivery of the innings completely.

In response the Kenyans barely got out of first gear with only five boundaries in their innings of 88.

The Group C win sends Sri Lanka into the second round alongside today's opponents New Zealand.
