Derbyshire put a significant dent in Lancashire's hopes of qualifying for the Twenty20 quarter-finals by claiming a three-wicket win with seven balls to spare at Old Trafford yesterday.

The Falcons came out on top on a slow pitch to secure victory for only the second time in the North Division, the first of those also being against the Lightning.

Pakistan fast bowler Rana Naved-ul-Hasan led the way with 3 for 20 as the home side could only post 122 for 8.

Man of the match Wes Durston then hit three sixes in four balls off Steven Croft to break the back of their chase. Having earlier taken 2 for 16 from four overs of off-spin, the former Somerset man also hit five fours in a score of 56 off 36 balls.

Lancashire's spin duo of Gary Keedy (2 for 20) and Stephen Parry also impressed to make the contest tighter than it could have been before Rana hit the winning runs. Lancashire may have to win their last three matches to qualify.

Elsewhere in the North Division, last year's champions Leicestershire continue to disappoint, losing to third-placed Durham at Chester-le-Street.

The hosts eased to a nine-wicket success after restricting their opponents to 114 for 7. Graham Onions took one for 14 in four overs before Phil Mustard, with 51 in 33 deliveries, and Herschelle Gibbs put on 82 for the first wicket as the hosts eased home.

Worcestershire pegged back pace-setters Somerset with a 54-run win in the Midlands/Wales/West group game at Taunton.

The visitors managed 173 for 7 after being asked to bat first, with runs from Moeen Ali (47), Vikram Solanki (33) and Phil Hughes (41). Steve Kirby led the fightback with 3 for 37.

Richard Levi's 28 at the top of the order was the best Somerset managed in response as they were rolled over for 119 – Daryl Mitchell and Brett D'Oliveira each taking three wickets.
