Sachin Tendulkar has become the first batsman to score 10,000 runs in one–day internationals.
Sachin Tendulkar has become the first batsman to score 10,000 runs in oneday internationals.
He blazed 139 in the third limitedovers game against Australia, helping India to 299 for eight.
Needing 34 runs going into his 259th innings to reach the fivefigure mark, Tendulkar attained the milestone with a single off Shane Warne and continued in a 199run partnership with VVS Laxman to give India the edge.
Tendulkar struck 19 boundaries from 125 balls faced as he raced past his 27th oneday century, extending his world record for 100s in limitedovers cricket.
Laxman, who went in at the fall of Rahul Dravid's wicket and whose 83 runs came off 88 deliveries, was looking good for a century before he was run out in a mixup with Tendulkar.
Pushed for a second run, Laxman failed to beat an accurate throw from Andrew Symonds and the second Indian wicket fell at 231.
Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly's poor form continued when he got out without opening scoring, holing out to Michael Bevan off Damien Fleming.
Hemang Badani, who was also run out in a mixup with Tendulkar, scored a brisk 23 but the Indian batsmen failed to maintain the tempo after Tendulkar was dismissed in the 46th over.
The star Indian batsman was out hooking a delivery off Glenn McGrath and was caught by Fleming at fineleg.
Playing in his 266th onedayer, Tendulkar was given a standing ovation by the packed stadium when he reached the 10,000run milestone in the 19th over.
McGrath, who finished with three for 52, then applied the brakes on the Indian scoring by dismissing Ajit Agarkar and debutante Dinesh Mongia in quick succession.
The fivematch series is level at 11. India won the recent Test series 21.
