Sri Lankan cricket selectors have recalled World Cup fame wicketkeeper Romesh Kaluwitharana to the one-day squad to face England in the upcoming three match series.
Kaluwitharana replaces Kumar Sangakkara, who kept the wicket in the just concluded three Test series that England won 2-1. Though Sangakkara performed well with the bat, averaging 43 runs from five innings with the highest score being 95, he did not live up to the standard behind the stumps.
Kaluwitharana who kept the wicket and opened the innings with Sanath Jayasuriya in the 1996 World Cup tournament that Sri Lanka won, was sidelined after Sri Lanka's South Africa tour last year.
Kaluwitharana was called to the Sri Lanka cricket board office and told that he should get ready to play in the first one-day international on Friday.
The selectors are yet to announce the full team.
