World Twenty20: Darren Sammy stars at West Indies beat Australia

A six wicket win was sealed with a couple of sixes in the final over

West Indies captain Darren Sammy produced a grandstand finish to lead his side to a crucial victory over struggling Australia in Dhaka.

Sammy blazed his way to 34 not out in just 13 balls at the end of the match, including successive sixes in the final over to seal a six-wicket win.

That James Faulkner, who had spoken of his dislike for the opposition before the match, was the bowler made the moment all the sweeter and led to the a colourful reprise of the Windies' 'Gangnam Style' celebrations on the outfield.

Australia are now likely to miss out on the semi-finals having lost both their matches in Bangladesh, while Sammy's side have renewed hope of defending their title.

Sammy's late fireworks took West Indies past Australia's 178 for eight with two balls to spare, but that would not have been possible without key contributions from Chris Gayle, who hit 53 in 35 balls at the top of the order, and Dwayne Bravo (27no from 12).

Australia won the toss and batted first, scoring plenty of early boundaries but losing Aaron Finch, David Warner and Shane Watson in successive overs to end the powerplay on 41 for three.

The in-form Glenn Maxwell provided the substance, hitting two maximums and five fours in his breezy 45, before Samuel Badree removed him in his final over.

Brad Hodge built the total with 35 from number six, while Badree, Marlon Samuels and Sunil Narine each claimed two wickets.

Gayle got off to a fierce start, flaying Mitchell Starc for four consecutive boundaries in the second over of the reply.

Sixes off Doug Bollinger and Watson saw him race to 40 in just 14 balls and his pace slowed comparatively as the score reached 87 for one at the halfway stage.

Rookie leg-spinner James Muirhead, brought in for veteran Brad Hogg, took the key wicket when Gayle holed out to Maxwell.

Lendl Simmons (26) and Bravo carried their side within sight of victory but it needed something special to achieve it.

And Sammy provided it, taking Starc for 19 in the penultimate over before his two decisive blows off Faulkner.
