Darts: Barneveld wins after tie-break
Raymond Barneveld, the top seed, became the first European from outside Britain to win the Embassy World Championship at Frimley Green last night.
Barneveld beat Richie Burnett 6-5, winning a tie-break 11th set by four legs to two. It took the Dutch postman two hours to gain revenge for a defeat by the Welshman in the 1995 final. It was the second-longest final on record, only beaten in 1992 when Phil Taylor beat Mike Gregory 6-5 in a match which went to the maximum 11 legs in the final set.
Only Canadian John Part, the 1994 champion, had taken the title outside Britain before him.
