England into quarter-finals

A dramatic 3-2 win over Nigeria on Saturday in Karlstad means England's women now have a quarter-final meeting with Germany tomorrow. The victory ensured they finished runners-up of Group A and qualified to face the European champions.

Although they are the underdogs after being beaten by Germany 6-2 in the European championship semi-finals, the England coach, Ted Copeland, is delighted his side are through to the knock-out stage.

"The girls have done tremendously well in getting to the last eight," he said after two goals from Karen Farley and another from Karen Walker sealed victory over the Nigerians.

However, he warned: "We can't afford to make unforced errors against Germany. We got punished for our mistakes against Nigeria and we'll be even more severely punished against Germany."
