Michael Whitaker, who has taken Aachen by storm this week with four wins and a part in Britain's Nations Cup triumph, was deprived of a sixth success yesterday by the American Meredith Michaels in the Pulsar International, writes Jennifer Harry. Whitaker and his brilliant second-string Everest Two Step took a commanding lead halfway through the third and final eight-horse round, but Michaels, based in Germany for three years with Paul Schockemohle, snatched the advantage by over a second on Quick Star by cutting the corners in a fashion that Whitaker dared not attempt.
