Michael Whitaker, a master at tight turns into big fences, thrilled a packed stadium at Wembley last night to take the Leading Showjumper of the Year title, writes Mary Gordon Watson. Riding Everest Midnight Madness, he beat 15 others in the jump-off, finishing clear in 26.48 seconds. James Fisher on Bow River Queen so nearly made it a memorable double having won the Speed Horse of the Year in the afternoon on Tip Toe. He did well to finish second ahead of favourites Alison Bradley and John Whitaker.
