Vijay Singh, of Fiji, shot a third-round 67 at Westchester Country Club to take a one-stroke lead into the final round of the Buick Classic in Harrison, New York.

Singh, who won this event in 1993, birdied the last two holes to take his total to a seven- under-par 206, one stroke in front of the American Bobby Wadkins, who shot a 69. Tied for third place at five under are Britain's Nick Faldo, who shot 68, and America's Bruce Fleisher, who had a 69.

Faldo had a bogey-free round, but missed several short birdie attempts. "An hour's putting practice ought to help out for tomorrow," Faldo said.

Most of the second-round leaders stumbled on Saturday, most notably the US Open champion Ernie Els, who began the day a stroke off the lead but three-putted his way to a four-over-par 75, six shots behind Singh.

Singh suffered just one bogey, when he missed a four-foot putt for par, the only putt inside six feet he missed all day. "Hopefully I can play the same tomorrow," he said. "I just had three weeks off and I'm charged up and ready to play. I can be aggressive because I'm hitting my driver beautifully."
