Bristol City's out-of-contract striker Kevin Nugent has agreed a two-year deal with Cardiff. The fee will be determined by a tribunal.

The Watford striker Kevin Phillips yesterday signed for Sunderland, who were relegated last season, in a deal that may be worth more than pounds 500,000.

Valencia said yesterday that Romario must return from Brazil and play for them next season despite his reluctance to do so. The Spanish club has lodged documents with the Spanish football federation which state that after 22 July Romario cannot play for any other club.
