The Blackburn midfielder Billy McKinlay has escaped with a pounds 750 fine after becoming the first Premiership player to amass 45 penalty points in a season. The Scottish international was up before a Football Association disciplinary committee yesterday and feared he may get a long-term suspension, but the FA decided on the fine and a warning to McKinlay over his future conduct.

Des Walker will be staying at Sheffield Wednesday, after he signed a new four-year contract yesterday. The former England centre-half had been the subject of speculation about moves to Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest.

The Nottingham Forest striker Jason Lee has agreed personal terms with Watford and will join the Second Division side when the clubs agree a fee.

Bordeaux's French international midfielder Ibrahim Ba is to join Milan next season. The two clubs reached an agreement for a four-year contract and a FFr45m (pounds 5m) transfer fee but the deal had yet to be finalised.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are trying to sign Barnsley's England under-21 winger Martin Bullock, who has rejected a new contract offer.
