ON A night when late goals decided the outcome of more than one FA Cup third-round replay, Plymouth Argyle left it later than most in their tie against Reading. Micky Heathcote scored an 88th-minute winner for the Third Division side, securing a 1-0 victory which sets up a fourth- round meeting with Preston at Home Park.

Heathcote stabbed home following Darren Bastow's free-kick from the right. The ball went across the face of the goal before being hooked back by substitute Martin Gritton. A goalmouth scramble ensued before Heathcote pounce.

Reading had Neil Smith sent off for a second bookable offence in the 39th minute.

Queen's Park Rangers had to struggle to beat Torquay 3-2 at Plainmoor. Torquay went one up through Tony Bedeau after 52 minutes, only for Stuart Wardley to notch his first of two goals to equalise four minutes later.

The First Division side then took a 3-1 lead to kill off the tie within the space of three minutes. Chris Kiwomya put QPR ahead on 71 minutes and Wardley (74) added his second of the night. Torquay refused to give up however, and Wayne Thomas grabbed a goal back for the hosts 10 minutes from time.
