FILIPPO INZAGHI, whose midweek hat-trick put Juventus safely into the semi-finals of the European Cup, hauled his team back from 2-0 down to earn a priceless point from a 2-2 draw at Parma yesterday.

Inzaghi made one for Alessio Tacchinardi and scored the other as the Italian Serie A leaders saved a match which threatened to deal a major blow to their chances of a second consecutive title, as Mario Stanic and Massimo Crippa gave Parma a two-goal lead with headers.

Juve were doubly fortunate as second-placed Lazio missed their chance to go top after being held to a goalless draw by relegation strugglers Piacenza at the Olympic Stadium. Udinese stayed fourth but closed on the leading clubs with a 3-1 win against Brescia.

Italy's Christian Vieri scored four goals for Atletico Madrid, the Uefa Cup conquerors of Aston Villa, and yet still managed to end up on the losing side, as Salamanca pulled off a last-gasp 5-4 victory on Saturday. Atletico's need to triumph in the Uefa Cup this season became more acute since they dropped to seventh place in Spain's Primera Division with this defeat.
