A contemporary of Michael Owen in Liverpool's youth team, the 18-year- old forward failed to win a contract at Anfield but was taken on by neighbours Tranmere. After a number of appearances on the subs' bench, he made his full debut against Hereford in the third round of the FA Cup and marked his second senior start by scoring the 77th-minute goal that knocked out Sunderland in the fourth round on Saturday.
