THE Conservative Party's Eurosceptics could not have dismissed Maastricht in more forthright fashion than PSV Eindhoven did on Saturday, writes Stephen Bradfield.

Although Maastricht managed to equalise the opening goal, the Dutch league leaders swept to a

5-1 victory to maintain their perfect start. Romario, the Brazilian striker, was in rampant form, scoring a hat-trick.

Dennis Bergkamp, the coveted Dutch striker, was on target in Ajax's 4-2 win over Roda JC Kerkrade, who had taken an early lead.

Deportivo Coruna continue to set the pace in Spain. The side who were almost relegated in June maintained their 100 per cent record with a 2-0 win at Real Sociedad on Saturday through second-half goals from Claudio Barragan and Adolfo Aldana.

Barcelona kept up the pressure on Deportivo with a 4-1 home win over Burgos, while an uninspired Real Madrid beat Albacete 3-0.

Many a tear has to fall but it is all in the game as far as Diego Maradona is concerned. The Argentinian, who has not played competitively for 17 months because of a ban for cocaine use and his dispute with Napoli, has promised to cry when he makes his debut for Seville in a friendly match against Bayern Munich tonight.
