Manchester United will make history when they play in Hong Kong in the wake of the handover to China. United begin their pre-season preparations with a tour to the Far East which includes a visit to Hong Kong, where they will face a Chinese select side. The Premiership champions, who report for training this weekend, will play in Bangkok on 17 July, then in Hong Kong three days later. They complete their Far East programme by flying to Japan for a final game in Tokyo, then end their overseas tour with a friendly against Internazionale in Milan on 27 July.

Barcelona have confirmed the signings of Christophe Dugarry and Michael Reiziger from Milan and Dragan Ciric from Partizan Belgrade for undisclosed fees. Milan are also selling Marco Simone to Paris St-Germain.

The Spanish club Tenerife have signed the former Zaragoza coach Victor Fernandez to replace Jupp Heynckes, now at Real Madrid.
