The veteran goalkeeper John Burridge, 45, has been appointed player-manager of the UniBond League Premier Division side Blyth Spartans.

Colchester have signed the Mansfield striker Mark Sale for pounds 20,000.

The former Cardiff and Torquay manager Eddie May has taken charge of the League of Ireland club Dundalk until the end of the season. He succeeds the former Aberdeen striker John Hewitt, who resigned a fortnight ago.

Brighton have imposed a life ban on fans involved in the pitch invasion on Saturday, during which a Leyton Orient player was attacked. The Seagulls are to hold their own inquiry into incident at the Goldstone Ground, where five arrests were made. The Football Association is also investigating.
