l The Rotherham coach Ronnie Moore, manager of the club for seven years, agreed to step down yesterday after failing to lift the team from the bottom of the Championship. Tje youth-team coach Alan Knill has been named as the caretaker manager.

l Middlesbrough and Everton have both admitted breaches of FA Rule E22a for failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion. The charges related to a mass confrontation in the match at the Riverside on 16 January.

l The 36-year-old Leicester City defender Matt Elliott has retired after struggling to overcome knee problems.

l Thijs Waterink, the captain of the German club SC Paderborn accepted Û10,000 (pounds 6,900) before a game at the centre of Germany's match-fixing scandal, his club said yesterday. He took the cash from an unidentified man before a cup tie against Hamburg on the under-standing he could keep it if his side won. "This could be the tip of the iceberg," said the club's president.
