Aston Villa v Southampton

Villa striker Yorke is doubtful (groin), so Regis stands by. Dutch striker Gillhaus has opted out, deciding to return to Aberdeen, so Breitkreutz and Froggatt are added. Saints are without defenders Wood (hamstring) and Dodd (groin). Hall and Kenna come in. New signing Monkou is suspended and will make his first appearance on Monday against Manchester United.

Blackburn v Manchester City

Rovers' full-back Wright (knee) has recovered and is set to return in place of Dobson. Lake, Manchester City's jinxed midfielder, is out after his comeback from a two-year absence with a knee injury ended with a recurrence of the problem at Middlesbrough on Wednesday. Sheron takes his place.

Manchester Utd v Ipswich Town

Ince is very doubtful (hip) for United, and Parker (knee) is definitely out. Striker Kiwomya faces a late test on a groin strain for Ipswich. Williams and Wark, who both picked up knocks in the midweek win at Wimbledon, are also included. Palmer (thigh) and Whitton (knee) are out.

Middlesbrough v Leeds United

Boro' will again be without goalkeeper Pears, ruled out with a rib injury. A man called Ironside deputises. For Leeds, England midfielder Batty faces a late test on a calf injury. Hodge or Rocastle, yet to make his League debut since his pounds 2m move from Arsenal, could come in.

Norwich City v Everton

Canaries' defender Polston is out (broken nose), so Sutton deputises with Irish Under-21 striker Power coming in as substitute. Everton's midfielder Ebbrell (shin) will have a late test. Manager Kendall includes defender Jackson and reserve striker Kenny in a 16-man squad.

Oldham Athletic v Nottm Forest

Oldham give a late test to full-back Pointon (knee ligaments). Barlow is on stand-by. Manager Royle has also called up winger Adams into a 16-man squad. Forest winger Crosby is fit after a calf injury and will be their only change.

QPR v Sheffield United

Rangers recall goalkeeper Stejskal, who missed the midweek win over Southampton because of international duty with Czechoslovakia. The Millwall centre-half McLeary, on loan at Sheffield United, could seal a permanent pounds 400,000 move today. Littlejohn, a striker, is added to the Blades' squad.

Sheffield Wednesday v Chelsea

Woods, the England goalkeeper, is responding to treatment for a leg injury and expects to be fit, but Wednesday will still be without knee injury victims Waddle and Sheridan. Chelsea recall striker Fleck, who was not allowed to play in the midweek defeat at Norwich, his former club.

Tottenham v Crystal Palace

Goalkeeper Walker, who was replaced by Thorstvedt at half-time in the midweek home defeat by Coventry after succumbing to a back injury, and defender Howells are both out of the Spurs side. But centre-half Cundy, carried off in the first minute on Wednesday with a cut eye, could play. Sedgley and Tuttle stand by. Palace expect striker Bright to be fit after a hip injury, but Salako (hamstring) is doubtful.

Wimbledon v Coventry City

Wimbledon give striker Fashanu (hamstring) a late test, but defender Scales (calf) is out and the unsettled full-back Phelan is again left out of the squad. Coventry, joint top of the Premier League, are unchanged.

Elsewhere

West Ham's Czech keeper Miklosko has recovered from a gashed knee, which kept him out of his country's midweek friendly against Austria, and retains his place against Charlton. Holmes, 23 year-old midfielder signed from Bournemouth, is also in the squad . . . Newcastle will be without Brock (virus) at Derby and Bracewell, another midfielder, faces a test on a toe. McMinn stands by to replace Johnson, Derby's pounds 1.3m winger, in the Rams' forward line . . . Nevin, Tranmere's pounds 250,000 signing from Everton, makes his debut at Sunderland, who keep midfield man Armstrong - the subject of a pounds 750,000 bid from Southampton - on the bench.

TOMORROW

Liverpool v Arsenal

Liverpool will give Rush a late test on his groin strain. The Gunners should have striker Wright back after a thigh injury, and midfielder Jensen who was taken off at Blackburn is also likely to play. Merson, who manager Graham describes as 'clearly not fit and overweight', is in the squad but unlikely to be more than a substitute. Carter is dropped for the trip to his former club.
