MICHALIS VLACHOS: The 32-year-old Athens-born player started his career with Olympiakos Piraeus before moving to AEK Athens and then on to Portsmouth. Equally at home as a defender or left-sided midfield player, Vlachos adapted quickly to the demands of English football after joining Pompey a year ago on a Bosman from the Greek giants. Obviously the European Champions' League didn't agree with him and he settled instead on the bracing English south coast and a struggle against relegation. Vlachos is very much a fans' favourite already and recently scored his first goal for the club against Huddersfield. Vlachos' hard work and cool distribution arguably saved the club from relegation last season. He was injured earlier this season but has now returned to full fitness and form.
