Football: Vox Pop: Which summer signing would make all the difference for your team?

It would have to be Roy Keane - he does an absolutely tremendous job for Manchester United. Another player I would love to see in a Liverpool shirt is the Tottenham and England centre-back, Sol Campbell, because, although successive managers have tried to solve our defensive problems, we are still desperately weak at the back. Edgar Davids would be another welcome addition at Anfield although it actually looks like he might well be joining my first choice, Mr Keane, at Old Trafford.

JAMES McPHERSON

LEAD ROLE IN TAGGART

If I could really choose anyone I wanted for Rangers, I would have to go for a 20-year-old Paul Gascoigne. In fact, I would even have Gazza back as he is now, because he is a wonderful player and he had a tremendous few years in Glasgow, until he left for Middlesbrough last year. If I could not have him, I think that I would look to sign David Beckham. He is such a good player, not to mention an extraordinary crosser of the ball. Quite frankly, he is the type of player that would benefit any team in the world.

TOM WATT

EX-EASTENDER

Anyone in the world for Arsenal? It's too good to be true. I would buy Lilian Thuram or Edgar Davids. Thuram can play anywhere in defence and I think you can't have too many World Cup winners in your team. As for Davids, he's one of the few European midfielders who is close to Patrick Vieira and Emmanuel Petit. The reason we didn't progress in the Champions' League is they never played alongside each other. Either would be happy with the Dutchman at their side.

TV PUNDIT AND EX-PLAYER

If we are talking about pure fantasy football, the one player Tranmere Rovers really need is already at the club - only as the manager. John Aldridge is one of the most prolific strikers of the post-war era and was one of the bargains of the Nineties when he came back from his incredibly successful spell in Spain. So all we have to do now is invent a time machine, turn the clock back a few years and return with Aldo in his goal-scoring prime. He is the type of signing that would take the club to a new level.

STEVE CRAM

FORMER ATHLETE

Sunderland's big problem when we were last in the Premiership - during the 1996-97 season - was scoring goals. So, to strengthen our attack I'd go for Harry Kewell because we need someone who is a bit unpredictable, who can take on players and beat them. Getting Christian Vieri would be good, though I doubt if he really fancies a move to Sunderland. Perhaps we could go for Mia Hamm - one of the stars from the US women's World Cup team - instead. She looks like a pretty useful player to me.

Zinedine Zidane, no question. Newcastle's midfield is far too weak. Not only has David Batty gone, but Rob Lee is getting on a bit. Also, Dietmar Hamann wants to go, which the fans won't like as they want someone who loves playing for the club. So we desperately need a midfield general. Someone with a high football profile; someone of a high calibre. If we couldn't buy Zidane, I would go for Clarence Seedorf. He's a good creative midfielder, which is what we need above all.
