Steve White, Cardiff's 38-year-old striker, scored twice to help lift Cardiff to the fringe of the play-off zone as they clinched an emphatic 4-1 win away to Third Division leaders Fulham, who remain six points clear at the top.

Jason Fowler's 29th-minute opener was followed by two gifts early in the second half as White and Simon Haworth took advantage of poor defending.

Jeff Eckhardt's own goal gave Fulham hope of getting back into the game but White struck again with his 14th goal of the season five minutes from time to ensure that the Welsh side move to eighth place.

Seventh-placed Colchester stretched their unbeaten league run to 15 games with a 2-0 win over Torquay and denied their opponents the chance to move above them.

In last night's other match Swansea skipper David Penney scored two goals to help his side to a 3-1 win over Cambridge. Their other goal came from Paul Brayson, who was making his debut on loan from Newcastle.
