Football / World Cup USA '94: It's a funny old World Cup

A Kenyan witchdoctor who forecast months ago that the Germans would be defeated in the World Cup quarter- finals, yesterday predicted a Brazilian success in the final.

Shariff Abubakar Omar said in Nairobi he had written to the German coach, Bertie Vogts, saying the holders should seek mystical assistance for a World Cup victory but had had no acknowledgement.

'They have paid the price for ignoring my advice. The Germans would have made progress had they seen me,' he said. 'I previously predicted they would win and they did, but fortunes had since changed and they needed the services of a magician.' Germany lost 2-1 to Bulgaria in the quarter-finals on Sunday.
