THE OLD sorcerer Ian Wright and the young apprentice Joe Cole were put on standby last night to add some magic to West Ham's Intertoto Cup effort.

The Londoners have a slender 1-0 advantage going into tonight's second round, second leg clash against the Dutch side Heenrenveen, and success will send them into one of the competition's three finals, against the French club Metz, with a Uefa Cup place at stake.

The West Ham manager, Harry Redknapp, has named both Ian Wright and Joe Cole in his squad after they returned to training last week. However, whether he will risk either player just days before the start of the Premiership season remains in doubt. West Ham have a home London derby against Tottenham on Saturday.

West Ham might again choose to rely on the goalscoring abilities of Frank Lampard. The England Under-21 international has twice saved the Londoners' blushes during their Intertoto Cup campaign and it was his strike that gave West Ham their lead against Heenrenveen.

Meanwhile, Rangers should comfortably progress to the next qualifying round of the Champions' League and a meeting with Parma as they defend a 4-1 lead over the Finnish side FC Haka at Ibrox tonight.
