Bayern Munich v Arsenal: Arsenal must rewrite history and pull off a European comeback to join the greats

No side has overturned a two-goal home deficit in the 22 years of the Champions League, but cam Arsenal join the greatest European comebacks when they take on Bayern Munich tonight?

Arsenal will have to rewrite the history books if they are to overturn their 2-0 first leg defeat to Bayern Munich and progress to the Champions League quarter-finals, given that no side has ever overturned a two-goal home deficit in the 22-year history of the modern Champions League.

The Gunners can draw inspiration though from those great European comebacks before them, and surprisingly the most recent of stunning U-turns in results came at north London rivals Tottenham.

Just last month, Spurs looked to be heading out of the Europa League when they trailed 2-0 to Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, when Emmanuel Adebayor sparked a miraculous comeback to send Tottenham into the last-16.

Other English sides to make history include Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Fulham – but having fallen just short on many occasion, can Arsenal finally pull off a great comeback of their own?
