Braga boss Sérgio Conceição celebrates cup win by jogging 24 miles home

The stunt was part of a bet made with his players

Sporting Braga manager Sérgio Conceição celebrated his side's progression to the Portuguese Cup final in a rather unusual way - by running 24 miles home.

The former international winger, who had spells with Lazio and Inter, promised his players that if they came through the second leg of their semi-final against Rio Ave, he would jog all the way back to Braga after the game for their amusement.

The manager felt the need to give his side the incentive despite them being 3-0 up from the first leg. Their subsequent 1-1 draw meant that Conceição and members of his backroom staff had to keep their word, lace up their running shoes and start on the long journey home.

Conceição believed it was just what his players deserved after putting them through their paces all season. "It’s not easy working for me. I’m a very demanding coach," he told reporters after the game. "It’s a deserved reward for the players."

Braga will take on Sporting in the final, which will be held in Oeiras, a mere 200 miles away from Conceição's home.
