British sides to learn Uefa destiny

Britain's four remaining Uefa Cup representatives will discover their fate this morning as the draw for the group stage takes place in Nyon, Switzerland. Tottenham, quarter-finalists last season, are in the second tier of teams after missing out on a place in the top pot by a single co-efficient point.

This means that Martin Jol's side could be drawn with such European luminaries as Bayern Munich or Villarreal, both of whom have reached the latter stages of the Champions League in recent seasons. A rematch with Bayer Leverkusen, whom Spurs beat in last years' group stages, is also a possibility.

Fellow Premier League strugglers Bolton join them in the second pot, with David Moyes' Everton lining up with Galatasaray and Fiorentina in pot three, following their victory over Metalist Kharkiv. Aberdeen, surprise victors over Dnipro, take their place in pot five alongside Larissa, who knocked Blackburn Rovers out last week.

The 40 teams will be drawn into eight groups of five, each side playing two home and two away games. The top three sides from each group progress into next February's round of 32, where they will be joined by the eight third-placed teams from the Champions League. This season's final takes place at Manchester City's Eastlands Stadium on 14 May.
