Fabio Cannavaro is delighted David Beckham is proving he is not past his best at AC Milan.

Beckham is enjoying an impressive loan spell at the San Siro and Cannavaro never expected anything less from his former Real Madrid team-mate.

"I am very happy for him, above all because he has gone to Italy and really proved what he can still do," the Italy defender said.

"A lot of people thought he was past it, that he was now just a model who played football, but he's not.

"He's showing instead that he's a great professional, who has great technical skill, a really great player."

Beckham has impressed so much at Milan that the Rossoneri are currently in negotiations with LA Galaxy to make his loan spell permanent.

The England midfielder has also been included in Fabio Capello's England squad to face Spain tonight, where he stands a good chance of winning his 108th cap, equalling Bobby Moore's record for an outfield player.

And Cannavaro expects the 33-year-old to continue proving his worth.

"He can still give a lot to the England team, a lot to Milan," he added. "Let's hope he remains in Italy."
