As summer crises go, the one engulfing Leicester City seemed remarkably remote in the baking sunshine as Claudio Ranieri’s champions eased past Oxford United in their first pre-season friendly on Tuesday night.

Almost two months have passed since Wes Morgan hoisted the Premier League trophy aloft at an almost leeringly buoyant King Power Stadium, but the exodus which many prophesied has, in part, began to take hold before the trip to face Celtic in Glasgow.

N’Golo Kante’s £30m departure to Chelsea was a bitter pill to swallow while the loss of Steve Walsh rankles with some at the club as the influential head of recruitment becomes director of football under Ronald Koeman at Everton.

But Ranieri’s carefree nature, projecting the image of a man who spends his spare time touring secluded Italian luncheonettes, has helped the champions manage the situation with a reassuring air of calm and tranquility.

Goals from Demarai Gray and Jeffrey Schlupp at the Kassam Stadium, either side of half-time, overturned Chris Maguire’s opener for the hosts as Ahmed Musa, Ron-Robert Zieler and Luis Hernandez made their debuts.

A trip to Scotland is next as they embark on an International Champions Cup campaign which will also see them come up against Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona.

Billed by the competition’s organisers as a “battle of champions” – pitting England’s best against their Scottish counterparts – it promises to be another test of Leicester’s credentials ahead of a fascinating title defence next season.

What time does it start?

Celtic and Leicester City will kick-off at 5.30pm on Saturday 23 July at Celtic Park. It will be both sides' first match of this summer's International Champions Cup.

Where can you watch it?

The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports on Saturday evening. As usual, The Independent will provide coverage from Glasgow throughout the day.

Who will be missing?

Leicester handed debuts to new signings Ahmed Musa, Ron-Robert Zieler and Luis Hernandez at Oxford in mid-week and are likely to give Nampalys Mendy, the £13m capture from Nice, a run-out. Jamie Vardy, the England striker, will not feature as he recovers from his efforts at Euro 2016 this summer.

Defender Erik Sviatchenko will be available for Celtic after recovering from a head injury but Brendan Rodgers may elected to rest some players after their two-legged Champions League qualifier against Lincoln Red Imps.
