Raul, who is the top scorer in Champions League history, put Real Madrid into the last 16 with the winner against BATE Borisov last night. The Real captain struck early on and that was enough to take the visitors through after Juventus held Zenit St Petersburg to a 0-0 draw in Russia.

In freezing conditions in Belarus Real scored after seven minutes when Raul grabbed his 64th goal in Uefa club competitions. Royston Drenthe broke down the left and his low cross found Raul, who rifled a shot in off the underside of the bar.

In Group F Lyons and Bayern Munich made it through to the knockout stages with a game to spare. Cameroon midfielder Jean Makoun fired the French champions ahead in the 15th minute and Karim Benzema drove in from outside the box after a strong run from midfield to double the lead 12 minutes later. Fiorentina hit back just before the break, Alberto Gilardino heading home shortly after Adrian Mutu had hit the post with a header, but could not find an equaliser.

Bayern are also through after beating Steaua Bucharest 3-0, Miroslav Klose scoring twice and strike partner Luca Toni getting the other goal, all in the second half.

In the other game in Arsenal's group, Argentina striker Lisandro Lopez scored twice as Porto went 2-0 ahead at Fenerbahce. Colin Kazim-Richards pulled one back for the Turks in the 64th minute but Porto held on to reach the last 16.
