Fernando Torres scored the first goals of his second spell at Atletico Madrid as the visitors stunned neighbours Real to progress to the last eight of the Copa del Rey.
The former Liverpool and Chelsea forward, in his third match since returning to his boyhood team on loan from Milan, scored in the opening minutes of both halves as holders Real were kept to a 2-2 draw at the Bernabeu, Atletico progressing 4-2 on aggregate.
The 30-year-old swept home Antoine Griezmann’s pass in the first minute for his first goal at the Bernabeu before Sergio Ramos levelled with a header. Torres restored Atletico’s lead in the second half, squeezing a shot under Keylor Navas, before Cristiano Ronaldo headed home his 34th of the season.
The result extended Real’s 2015 record to just one win in four, after ending last year with a record-breaking 22 straight wins. Atletico are likely to face Barcelona in the quarter-finals, who went into their second leg at Elche 5-0 up.Reuse content
