Fifa have dismissed Jerome Valcke as general secretary, football's ruling body have announced this morning.

Frenchman Valcke was suspended in 2015 from all footballing activities for his alleged involvement in a scheme to profit from the sale of World Cup tickets. Markus Kattner will assume the role on an interim basis.

In an statement, the organisation said: "The Fifa emergency committee decided, on 9 January 2016, to dismiss Jerome Valcke from the position of Fifa secretary general with immediate effect."

Fifa’s ethics committee announced on January 7 it had elected to open formal ‘adjudicatory proceedings’ against the 55-year-old after receiving a report from its investigatory chamber.

Valcke was charged with several violations of the Fifa code of ethics while serving as president Sepp Blatter's right hand man since 2007. The charges include accepting gifts and conflicts of interest.

Today’s developments follow the suspension for eight years of Blatter and vice-president Michel Platini.
