Chelsea 2 PSG 2: Jose Mourinho calls for David Luiz to be banned for unpunished elbow on Diego Costa

Mourinho also said Ibrahimovic red card should be rescinded

Jose Mourinho has called for former Chelsea defender David Luiz to be banned for an elbow on Diego Costa that went unpunished last night.

The Paris Saint-Germain centre-back appeared to catch the Chelsea striker with a flailing arm as the pair raced into the box with the Blues on the counter attack.

However, referee Bjorn Kuipers - who had a poor game - didn't see the incident and play continued. Luiz also attempted to get Costa sent off when he threw his head back as if the striker had headbutted him. Chelsea eventually crashed out at the last-16 stage of the European Cup for the first time since 2010 as headers from Luiz and Thiago Silva saw the Paris side through on away goals after 120 minutes.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was harshly sent off in the first period as PSG played over 90 minutes - including extra-time - with 10 men, but Mourinho feels the Sweden international should have his red card rescinded and Luiz should instead serve a ban. “The David [Luiz] elbow I didn't see, but when Uefa gives him the Man of the Match I have to believe there is no elbow,” he told reporters. “He played very very well and I have to believe no elbow because I can't believe that Uefa gives the Man of the Match to someone that made an aggression.

“So maybe because they cannot give us the penalty now, they can do what is fair from the disciplinary point of view and suspend David and let Ibra play the quarter-finals, because he deserves it.”
