Juventus and Real Madrid played out an entertaining semi-final first leg as they battle for a place in the Champions League final.

It was the Italian side though that ended up on top ahead of next week's second leg, securing a 2-1 win.

Alvaro Morata opened the scoring early on as the Old Lady made their rapid start pay. The former Real Madrid striker latched on to the ball at the back post after Iker Casillas was unable to hold a shot at goal.

Real Madrid were level on 27 minutes though when Cristiano Ronaldo headed in James Rodriguez's cross. It was the Ballon d'Or holder's ninth goal of the tournament.

Juventus took the lead again when Carlos Tevez carried the ball from inside his own half before winning a penalty. He dusted himself off before converting from the spot.

The result leaves the tie well balanced before they meet again at the Bernabeu on Wednesday. But who can take credit for their performance and who failed to come up to expectations? We taker a look at the individual performances.
