Lehmann escapes punishment
Veteran goalkeeper Jens Lehmann will not be suspended despite aiming a kick at Roda Antar during Stuttgart’s weekend defeat against Koln.
The 38-year-old former Arsenal goal keeper will now be available for Stuttgart’s Bundesliga encounter at Eintracht Frankfurt.
The German Football Federation were studying videos of the incident to see if they needed to take disciplinary action as they believed referee Thorsten Kinhofer did not see the incident.
However, the match official’s post-match report revealed that he did see the kick but decided to take no action against Lehmann.
Borussia Dortmund duo Mats Hummels and Alexander Frei both face spells on the sidelines.
Hummels is unlikely to play again until December after suffering an ankle ligament injury in Sunday's game against Bochum.
Switzerland international Frei has only recently recovered from the serious knee injury he suffered at Euro 2008. The 29-year-old’s new injury is similar to Hummels’ but he is expected to return to action in two weeks’ time.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jakub Blaszczykowski underwent successful surgery on his broken nose on Monday and should feature against Hamburg this weekend.
Eintracht Frankfurt’s Greek defender Ioannis Amanatidis is unlikely to play again until February because of a troublesome knee injury.
The 26-year-old scored a late winner after coming off the substitute’s bench against Karlsruhe two weeks ago but aggravated his knee problem during the game and required surgery.
During the operation it was discovered that he has cartilage problems as well as the diagnosed meniscus damage.
"A comeback before the end of February is unthinkable," his agent Dirk Lips told Kicker.
Eintracht are also without another defender, Chris, for the next six weeks after he was forced to have a shoulder operation.
