Ryan Giggs has stressed that Manchester United cannot get carried away with their victory over Olympiakos despite progressing to the Champions League quarter-finals after a 3-2 aggregate victory.

Having gone in to Wednesday’s second leg needing to overturn a two-goal deficit, Giggs inspired United to a 3-0 victory, laying on two assists for striker Robin van Persie as the Dutch international netted a hat-trick to ensure the Red Devils joined Chelsea in representing the Premier League in the last-eight.

Giggs was recalled to the starting line-up having not started a match since the end of January, but David Moyes later described the 40-year-old as a “freak” following his impressive showing. The Welshman feels that they should not let the win go to their heads, given that the players owed the fans a performance regardless of their form this season as the memories of Sunday’s 3-0 humbling to Liverpool were still fresh in the mind.

“Of course there is pressure after Sunday because it was a bad performance and bad result,” Giggs told Sky Sports. “We owed the fans because they've been unbelievable.

“We hope this is a turning point, but we've had good performances and good results and not followed it up. We cannot get carried away.”

Moyes praised the midfielder for his ability to defy his age and continue to perform at the highest level, and the player/coach admitted that he is still enjoying his football despite his advancing years and reduced first team opportunities.

“As you can see tonight I enjoy playing my football and want to continue playing my football,” Giggs revealed. “This season wasn’t what we expected. We need to play better, like we did tonight. It was a good night for us. Three days ago we lost here to Liverpool, but we scored three and stopped Olympiakos scoring.”
